I found a really nice slab of 8/4 Indian Rosewood that was perfect for an El Camino! Its rough, so its going to take a little work to turn it into a body blank.
Here it is after a trip through the thickness planer. You can see the fantastic variety of colours starting to pop out. Planing wood is like unwrapping a present sometimes!
After slicing off two pieces I run them over the jointer to get nice square edges for gluing. They're actually so smooth and perfect that you need to rough them up a bit with sandpaper in order to get a strong glue joint. Rosewood is a very oily wood that technically doesn't need any finish. Due to that oily nature, you also need to wipe down the gluing surfaces with a solvent of some kind to pull some of the oil out before you apply glue.
Glued up and drying.
