Rosewood is an oily wood so it's somewhat more involved to apply a finish to it. After many test scraps and experiments with oil finishes, I opt to go with a thin coat of epoxy to fill the grain and really enhance the colour. The epoxy will be sanded down until it looks quite dull and is as smooth as glass. At that point I'll apply some clear coats which will really magnify the grain patterns and colours for a stunning effect. Here's the epoxy before sanding.

...and here's the epoxy after sanding. It appears quite dull, but it's as smooth as glass. A few clear coats will really make the grain stand out now.

The neck is finished with oil. Here it is after a few coats.

An oil finish on walnut is one of my favourite combinations for a neck. Once enough coats have been applied, I'll buff it lightly with fine steel wool for a glass smooth finish.

Even the flamed maple fretboard is oiled which really enhances the flames.
