Now that the neck construction is complete I can get back to the body design. To move forward on that, I need to determine where the hardware cavities will be and that means we need a pickguard design. Here are a few that I came up with. As you can see, I've decided to go with a P90 in the bridge and a lipstick in the neck.
In in number 5, I've take the universal route concept one step further. Here we have individual pickup surrounds, and a separate control cavity cover which is nice because you have access to the control wiring without have to loosen the strings and also take out a pickup.
Here's number 2. All options show one volume, one tone and a 3 way switch.
I like this one (number 3). Since this is a prototype, my plan was to surround the neck pickup so that it can conceal a universal pickup route. That will allow me to replace the pickup with a different style (or remove it altogether) without requiring body modifications, only a new pickguard.
In number 4, I've taken the universal pickup route idea and also applied it to the bridge pickup. I like this one too...
